Prize watch: (October 14 update) We have a winner! Congrats to Richard Flanagan, who was awarded the 2014 Man Booker prize for his book The Narrow Road to the Deep North, a P.O.W. story about an Australian surgeon forced to work on the Thailand-Burma Railway. Sounds like a good read.

(September 10) The Booker shortlist is out!

(July 23) It must be the beginning of the fall prize season – the Man Booker Prize longlist was revealed today. The Booker is a big deal this year – for the first time, any book published in English in any country is eligible. (The prize was formerly for Commonwealth publications only.)

No Canadians on the longlist this time. There are usually a couple, so that’s a bit disappointing. I have to say, I don’t find the list that exciting. I think only one or two of these are on my massive TBR, and even then, not at a high priority. But that will likely change as these generate more and more buzz over the coming months.
